I made a very quick, two day, trip to Amsterdam over the weekend.
I have previously been to Amsterdam a few times and it definitely has to be one of the most charming cities that I have been to. I love its thin brick buildings, surrounded by often rainy skyline, an interesting history, and the people seem to have a very easy going attitude towards life (might be all the weed?).
Even after quite a few visits to the city, I still find new things to do.
I stayed slightly away from the centre in a Mercure hotel, located in Overamstel, The hotel amenities were fairly average, nonetheless it was a good value hotel, paying around 120 pounds for a double room. The staff were really lovely and recommended/cooked a great Tapas Bar in Amsterdam Centrum called Pata Negra.
You can see the photo of the above and honestly looks abit ‘shabby’, and once we entered the restaurant it was absolutely rammed with people and a great atmosphere. We ordered a few little tapas dishes; Chorizo, Prawns in a garlic sauce (really yummy) and some sautéed vegetables. It has to be some of the best tapas I have ever had, click on the link below to see their website.
I would definitely rate this a 5/5, mostly for the very attentive manager who was incredibly good at serving everyone in the restaurant even though it was at full capacity and people waiting!!
